CiBER

The Center for Interdisciplinary Bio-Inspiration in Education and Research (CiBER) proposes to discover fundamental principles from biology that inspire novel design in engineering and train the next generation of scientists and engineers to collaborate in mutually beneficial relationships. This nature-inspired approach can instruct us how to best use new materials and manufacturing processes developed by engineers to address current and future problems. Bringing unique knowledge to this interdisciplinary approach are over 25 faculty members from these seven departments: Integrative Biology, Molecular and Cell Biology, Bioengineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Psychology and the Berkeley Natural History Museums. The result is innovative education and research that create an exciting platform for transformative discoveries and creative industry applications. Details about the Center are available at http://ciber.berkeley.edu.

CENTER’S INDUSTRY AFFILIATES PROGRAM (CIAP)

CiBER’s inaugural event is also the formal launch of Center’s Industry Affiliates Program (CIAP), which is designed to facilitate industry-student-faculty interactions. These planned interactions have several benefits for member companies. Students who have experienced CiBER’s interdisciplinary, research-based education and interaction with industry make excellent new hires — another strong company benefit to CIAP membership. For a list of potential membership benefits, please click here.
